Beauty Within

In a world where beauty appears to have already been defined

I look in the mirror and see that definition needs to be refined

A face of my ancestors reflects back to me

Proud of my heritage and happy with what I see

I hear the preconceived notions of what beauty looks like

And I choose to accept the mirror’s reflection in my sight

Your idea of beauty is based on a superficial surface view

Yet I see beauty is based deep within with kindness and love to name a few

I have been created by my creator to be uniquely me

And other’s definition of beauty will never sway how I define what I see

The next time you doubt the beauty the mirror reflects back to you

Remember those came before to create you, a beautiful person through and through
